Boobie Beanie Giveaway!

I just had to share this link – some people are very shy about breastfeeding in public – there are several covers / aprons / shawls and many other ways to try and make feeding your baby less obvious or revealing.  Evolutionary Parenting is giving away something that does the exact opposite!  This beanie is for the mama that is proud to breastfeed in public and would get a laugh at the double takes I’ve no doubt you’d get!

Essential Oil Safety

There are many great uses for certain essential oils in the last two trimesters of pregnancy and especially during labour and the postpartum period. However, some essential oils are not safe or useful when pregnant due to their powerful effect on the body during this sensitive time. Below is a list of essential oils with properties that are not desirable when pregnant, and should be avoided.

Oils Not Recommended for Pregnancy

· Basil

· Cajeput

· camphor

· Cedarwood

· Cinnamon

· citronella

· Clary sage (not recommended until full term – OK during labour)

· Clove

· Cypress (OK after 5 months)

· Fennel

· Hyssop

· Jasmine (not recommended until full term – OK during labour)

· Juniper

· Lemongrass

· Myrrh

· Niaouli

· Nutmeg

· Parsley

· Pennyroyal

· Peppermint

· Ravensara

· Rosemary

· Sweet marjoram

· Sage

· Thyme

· Tarragon

· Yarrow

None of the essential oils listed are found in Natural Creation’s pregnancy products. Clary Sage, Jasmine, and Lemongrass are found in products created for use during labour and the postpartum period. Our product labels are conveniently coded to help you determine which stage of the childbearing year the product has been created for. The essential oils chosen for each product are appropriate for the stage they are labeled. Our products are created with a low concentration of essential oils appropriate for the sensitivity of pregnant & new moms, and babies. We do not recommend the use any of our products in your first trimester and suggest consulting your healthcare provider or aromatherapist if you have any medical conditions that would contradict the use of essential oils.

Please feel free to contact Emily and Chelsea anytime if you have any questions about our products and the ingredients we use.

Since I first considered becoming a doula, I have devoured every book on pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and babies I could get my hands on.

If it is your first pregnancy chances are you don’t know a lot on the subject. Women in our culture have many different options regarding pregnancy, birth and feeding their baby. I always encourage my clients to educate themselves throughout the childbearing year so they are empowered in the decisions they make.

“If you don’t know your options, you don’t have any.”  ~ Roberta Scaer, Co-Author of A Good Birth, A Safe Birth

These are a few of my favourite books; they are full of up to date information on current practices in maternity and infant care as well as beautiful and empowering stories of birth, breastfeeding and motherhood.

Featured Product: Nipple Soother Balm

You are likely aware of the countless benefits of breastfeeding to both mom and baby. You are also probably aware of the challenges that come with it too.

Not to fear! With good support, education and a bit of determination you can overcome the challenges that arise in those beginning stages. In the beginning of your nursing relationship, it may take some time for you and your baby to learn how to properly latch on to the breast without hurting your nipples.  When done correctly breastfeeding should not hurt! However, if you got off on the wrong foot and your nipples are sore, dry and cracking turn to our Nipple Soother for some relief.

The anti-inflammatory propertied of calendula infused avocado oil help soothe the tender skin of the nipple and provide relief to cracking skin. Our balms are ALL vegan!! Most comercial nipple balms are made from lanolin a  greasy yellow substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of wool-bearing animals. After your baby is done feeding apply the balm to the affected area as needed. Click HERE to Buy!
